Vermont State House
The Capitol is a magnificent building located in downtown Montpelier. The
gold leaf dome includes real gold and offers a spectacular contrast with
the wooded hillside of Hubbard Park in the background. The interior is adorned
with marble floors, spiral staircases and finely carved wood trim.
Guided Tours are available on the half-hour, free of charge, July
through mid-October: Monday-Friday, 10:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Saturdays,
11:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Group and school tours must be arranged by calling
(802) 828-2228.
Vermont
Historical Society Museum
The Vermont Historical Society is a not-for-profit, membership-supported
organization founded in 1838 by an act of the Vermont legislature and
dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Vermont history. It
operates a library (located in Barre) and museum, has active publishing
and educational programs, and sponsors special events. The VHS museum,
located in the Pavillion Building near the State Capitol in Montpelier, is a tremendous asset and
a "must-see" for anyone interested in Vermont's heritage and
way of life.

The museum's permanent exhibit, Freedom and Unity: One Ideal, Many Stories, opened in
March 2004. The multimedia exhibit, which represents Vermont's history from 1600
to the present, fills 5,000 square feet in the Pavilion building in Montpelier.
Visitors walk through time and experience a full sized Abenaki wigwam, a
re-creation of the Catamount Tavern where Ethan Allen's Green Mountain Boys
gathered, a railroad station complete with a working telegraph and a WWII living
room furnished with period music and magazines.

Wood Art Gallery
Located on the Vermont College campus in College Hall, the gallery maintains
a continuous display of the paintings of Thomas Waterman Wood. The gallery
also includes exhibitions of regional artists and craftsmen.
Green
Mount Cemetery
On a hill off State Street a few blocks west of the capitol, Green Mount
Cemetery was founded in 1854 and has been a memorial for the area's talented
sculptors and prominent citizens. Maps are available for self guided tours
of the unique monuments found throughout the cemetery.
Hubbard
Park and Tower
Hubbard Park was created through a gift of 125 acres to the City of Montpelier
by John E. Hubbard in 1899. Since then several other parcels have been added
to the park which now consists of 185 acres and roughly 7 miles of hiking
and skiing trails, numerous picnic areas, a soccer and baseball field, a
small pond, a sledding hill, and a 54 foot observation tower. The observation
tower offers spectacular views of the city from the highest point in the
city.
Kellogg-Hubbard Library
This impressive building of rough, light-colored granite from Dummerston was built between 1894 and 1895, and a dedication was held on January 2, 1896. The two-story entrance with its four columns, the ample windows with unusual portholes under the eaves, and the rounded bays give this Classical Revival library a distinctive look.
The library not only offers books, DVDs, CDs, and free programs for all ages – but also has free internet access.

North
Branch Nature Center
The North Branch Nature Center is a locally-run non-profit organization that has a nature center located on a 14-acre preserve on the east bank of the North Branch River. Located at 713 Elm Street in Montpelier,
the North Branch Nature Center is open to the public Monday - Friday, 9am
to 5pm, with trails open every day.
Vermont Mountaineers
Montpelier is also the home of Vermont's newest baseball team: The Vermont Mountaineers.

Farmers' Markets
The Capital City Farmer's Market is open from May to October on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in downtown Montpelier on State Street in the lot across from Elm Street. Contact: Jessie Schmidt, (802) 685-4360.
