Central Vermont Regional Path
Biking and walking are popular means of getting to and through Montpelier in the warmer months.
The Central Vermont Regional Path system is proposed to extend from the Dog River Recreational Area in Montpelier through Berlin, Barre City, and Barre Town, terminating in the villages of Websterville, Graniteville, and East Barre. Citizen committees in each community along the route formed a coalition to plan the route in a coordinated fashion.
Montpelier's Winooski East path and the Central Vermont Regional Path are envisioned as a key link and spur of the even more ambitious Cross Vermont Trail, which is proposed to extend from the Village of Wells River on Connecticut River to East Montpelier. The first section of the Winooski East Bike Path along Stone Cutters Way was completed in 1999, and is planned to continue from there out to Gallison Hill, and eventually connect to neighboring towns as part of the Central Vermont Bike Path and the Cross Vermont Trail. It can be accessed from either Main Street, Granite Street, or the Barre Street Recreation Center.
