The Onion River Exchange facilitates neighborly exchanges by using time as a currency. It was founded by the Social Systems Committee of EnVision Montpelier, the long term city planning project, in order to alleviate poverty, rebuild community, and make every community member feel like he or she has something to give back.
In the Onion River Exchange, everyone's time is equally valued and members exchange services based on the amount of time it takes to provide them. For example, you could earn time credits for cooking a meal, and use them to get pet care.
