Montpelier Alive
formerly the Montpelier Downtown Community Association (MDCA)

Montpelier Alive is an organization of business people, political leaders, and involved citizens dedicated to making downtown Montpelier an attractive and inviting place to work, shop, eat, and enjoy the city’s many cultural and natural attractions. Montpelier Alive is part of a network of designated downtowns across the state that strive to reduce sprawl and preserve Vermont's historic downtowns by making the downtowns vital and diverse community centers.

Montpelier Alive projects and activities make Montpelier a safer, cleaner, more attractive and vibrant place. These activities include:

  • Organizing events and festivals such as First Night and Independence Day festivities; a yearly Green Up Day; a Brown Bag concert series, and the SculptCycle public art project
  • Streetscape improvements such as installation of flower planters, street banners, benches, and trash and recycling receptacles. We also work to improve park areas in the City such as City Hall plaza.
  • Business assistance through cooperative advertising, information sharing, networking, training opportunities, and one-on-one assistance.
  • Promotional activities and advertising to bring people to downtown Montpelier.

Montpelier Alive's mission statement is “To enhance the quality of life for people who live, work and visit Montpelier by helping the downtown develop into the 21st century as a vital and diverse community center for retailing, cultural and entertainment activities, education, recreation, business and professional services, dining, government and residential use.”
