Heritage Group

The Montpelier Heritage Group
was formed "to achieve one main purpose: to alert the citizens of Montpelier to the historic, architectural, and economic value of the city's buildings and public spaces. Our aim is twofold: to add to the understanding of they city's history and of the people who made that history, and thus enrich our sense of the particular character of Montpelier; and to ensure that those who are to make decisions about changes in our visual environment have adequate information and are aware of the point of view of the Group."

The MHG sponsors several events and activities throughout the year, including:

  • Annual Victorian Ice Cream Social and Croquet Tournament
  • Montpelier Heritage Group Newsletter
  • Walking Tours of Montpelier's historic buildings and places
  • Publication of Montpelier's Walking Tour Brochures
  • Annual Preservation Awards
  • Oversight of Design Review Committee and Planning Commission actions
