Montpelier Parks Green Up Day
On May 3rd volunteers from National Life and a 4th grade class from Union Elementary School participated in Montpelier Parks Green Up Day! Mill Pond Park was spruced up with new mulch in the garden. Invasive Tartarian Honeysuckle was pulled at North Branch River Park. Both the Old Shelter and New Shelter were spruced up. Ferns were planted at the New Shelter. Thank you for ALL of the work you have done! Everything looks great!

Vernal Pools and Bird Migration
With the arrival of spring, there is an explosion of species returning. With this, a few great natural history projects are happening around the park. First, there has been activity in the vernal pool behind the New Shelter at Hubbard Park. Wood Frog eggs and Spotted Salamander Spermatophores are now in the pool! We have worked with a volunteer and the parks staff to fence off this area! Check out the Park Facebook Page for pictures and updates! Please keep dogs out of the vernal pool. This is critical habitat for salamanders and fogs.
Second, Montpelier Parks has started a Bird Species list. Check out the Montpelier Park's Official Facebook page to see what bird species has been seen in the parks for the year of 2013! If you have seen something that is not on the list, let us know! Lets see how many species we can account for! To see the list, look under the photo albums

Roads To Hubbard Park...
The gates to Hubbard Park are now open! Please be cautious of people and dogs traveling along the road. Also, remember, the speed limit in the park is 15 miles per hour! Thank you

Montpelier Parks Dog Survey
Thank you to everyone who attended the last park commission meeting. The park commission appreciated the feedback, suggestions and discussions.
From the commission meeting it was decided that at least two committees will be formed to address issues brought up in the survey. One of them will be focused on dog waste issues. The second committee to be formed will address creating suggestions regarding dog policy in the parks. The commission is looking for 4-6 people, a mix of dog walkers and others, to help develop suggestions on park policy regarding dog walking that will help keep the park a positive place for all park visitors. The commission will review applicants for this committee at the next commission meeting, March 21st. If interested please send an email to:
