he daily functions of the city's government are overseen by the City Manager while an elected citizen City Council and Mayor perform the legislative functions of the city. The City Council consists of six councillors and the Mayor. The councillors represent the city's three districts and are elected for two year terms. The Mayor is elected by the entire city, also for a two year term.

The municipal departments which oversee the daily functions of the city are the Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Planning and Development, City Clerk's Office, Finance Department, City Manager's Office and the Assessor's Office.

Many functions of the City are carried out by countless skilled and generous citizens who serve on one or more of boards and commissions, such as the Tree Board, Planning Commission, School Board, Conservation Commission, and Design Review Committee.
