Growth Center Designation - Overview:
"The primary goal of the city in designating its growth center is to reverse the trend of a decreasing population in the last several decades by fostering new residential development in the growth center that meets the needs of city employees and captures and increasing proportion of the region's anticipated housing needs" application, page 6
Decision to Approve Growth Center Designation
The Expanded Downtown Board considered the City of Montpelier's application for growth center designation at their September 28, 2009 warned public meeting. The board voted 7 to 4 to approve Montpeleir's application and award growth center disignation, based upon review of the applicationm, the Planning Coordination Group's September 9, 2009 recommendations, and the statutory designation criteria (24 V.S.A. section 2791). Application
Below please find the Application to the State of Vermont for Growth Center designation for the City of Montpelier and all of its supporting materials.
A formal public hearing on this application was held on February 9, 2009 at 7:00 pm at City Hall. The Montpelier Planning Commission, Montpelier City Council, and Central VT Regional Planning Commission have reviewed and approved this application and appendices, and the final application has been sent to the state for consideration.
