   Conflict Assistance Program

The Conflict Assistance Program helps people untangle problems and find solutions that really work. The MCJC also teaches skills for resolving conflict effectively and peacefully.

If you are having differences with others about...

  • barking or roaming dogs,
  • boundaries or permits,
  • noise, light, or odors,
  • parking, snow removal, or shared driveways,
  • or other concerns
and if you're tired of arguments that seem to go nowhere, we can help you
  • create a solution that works,
  • stop feeling so upset,
  • and have better communication in the future.
When someone with a conflict asks for help, we
  • find a comfortable way for people to come together and talk about solutions to the problem,
  • keep the conversation productive, act as a go-between,
  • help people think through their options,
  • follow through until everyone agrees that the matter is settled.
How we help
We understand that it can be difficult to talk with people when you disagree with them. We have years of experience helping people communicate, negotiate, and reach agreements they can live with. "It was a very volatile situation--
and now there is a really nice
sense of community."

Why it works
The solutions you create with others have a better chance of working than decisions handed by down by courts or other authorities. You can settle the matter faster and without the expense of a lawsuit.

"I learned that I contribute to conflict more than
I was aware of. I need to sit back and listen ....
Conflict really does provide opportunity."

What it costs
There is no cost if at least one person is a Montpelier resident.

It starts with a phone call. Call Yvonne Byrd at 262-6260 or email ybyrd@montpelier-vt.org for a confidential conversation. We'll listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and offer you choices about how to use our services.
