Completed Public Facilities & Services Projects

Heaton Woods:

This Public Facilities grant enabled the City of Montpelier to provide a deferred loan to the Capital City Housing Foundation for the purchase and renovation of the then vacant Heaton House. The project resulted in the creation of a 39 bed, licensed Level III, Residential Care Home. Prior to this there was no Level III facility in Montpelier that was open to the general public.

Benefits:

  • 39 beds assisted living
  • created 20 full and part-time jobs, 17 available to low and moderate income persons
  • renovation of vacant building
  • Level III facility for Montpelier residents

Winooski West River Front Redevelopment Project

A HUD Special Purpose Grant was used to fund infrastructure improvements to support commercial redevelopment of the nine acre railroad yard adjacent to the Winooski River. These improvements include relocating an active railroad line, construction of a new road and a section of the Winooski East Bike Path, installation of street lights and underground power, extension of water and sewer lines, and the creation of additional parking spaces. Four sites, including two railroad structures, are also being made available for development by private developers.

  • opened up undeveloped land for future development
