Earth Day Help Thank you!!!!
Three Penny Taproom and it's wonderful staff

Three Penny Taproom volunteers who helped repair the eroded headers of the bridge in the picture and helped with trail work.

Volunteers from 3 Penny Taproom fixing up Hubbard Parks main entrance.
Hubbard Park will likely still be closed to cars for at that time, making the event safer and more enjoyable but this means you should leave enough time to walk in from Spring Street, Winter Street or Hubbard Park drive. Check the map link below if you need directions.
New Composting Toilets in Hubbard Park

Eric Clifford, Americorp member, standing by the newly finished outhouse near the new shelter picnic area. Inside notice the semi-famous "elephant" or moose tree that grew along side a trail in the middle of Hubbard Park. It recently fell over and is now taking on its new role.

These composting toilets are "state of the art" design. They are designed to be beautiful, functional and handicap accessible. Made with two chambers, only one chamber will be used at a time. A bucket with compost enhancement material (such as sawdust) is available for users to add to aid in the composting process. When one side is nearly "full" it will be closed down and the other side opened. In approximately five years the second side will become full, by this time the first side will be completely composted leaving a rich but harmless product that will be dry and greatly reduced in volume. At this point the material will be suitable to use as a fertilizer around transplanted trees. The newly emptied chamber will then become available for re-use while the second side has time to safely compost, and so the cycle will be able to continue...
These composting toilets have been designed to be beautiful, functional and last a long time.
Another composting toilet is now being built near the tower.
The outhouses being built near the new shelter and tower have been made possible with the skillful guidance of Will Eberle (of Timber and Iron Artisan Builders), the New School (in Montpelier) and several New School students who worked hard on the frames (as they gained timber framing skills), Eric Clifford, the Parks Americorp member, Gary Schy, Wolfie Morrow and Park Staff.

The composting toilet below is at the "Seven Fireplaces" area.

This state of the art composting outhouse was designed (with park staff guidance) and built by a class from the Yestermorrow design/build institute in Warren, VT.

In this picture it is nearly complete, but it has been finished and "opened" as of 10/20/10.
A unique "room with a view".
