North Branch Park includes:
river, shore land, nationally registered wetlands, dense softwood stands, mixed
and hardwood stands, some unusual geological features including some sharp ridges,
and a few "trickling" streams. The wetlands are at the bottom of a
long hillside and built up into a series of pond by the industrious beaver.
To help protect the diversity of wildlife and vegetation people and their pets
are asked to keep out of the wetland area, except for designated trails.
Volunteer
Work Day - May 6, 2004
Many thanks to the
Montpelier chapter of the Green Mountain Club for helping to organize a trail
workday in Montpelier Parks on May 6th, 2004! This is the third year the local
chapter has helped in the parks but is the first year it didn't rain most of
the day. The group got a huge amount of work done on restoring a trail in the
North Branch River Park. They also helped with controlling two different invasive
species, Japanese knotweed and Japanese honeysuckle. Volunteers included: Jill
Aspinall, Ann Burcroff, Justin Chandler, Priscilla Daggett, Kim Gorton, Ken
Hertz, Rick Moltz, Andrew Nuquist, Reidun Nuquist, Thomas Weiss, and Conor Bresette.

History
The North Branch River Park is 193 acres. Montpelier Conservation Commission
raised the funds for the two parcels the Park is comprised, which were purchased
in 1997 and 1995. The North Branch River Park has approximately four miles of
hiking and skiing trails. The main trail in the Park connects with East Montpelier
trails, passing through a rich variety of habitat and terrain. A variety of
organizations and volunteers have made major contributions of money and effort
to make this Park possible.
