Projects: Montpelier Town Meeting, Sept 24, 2002 See the Notes - Celebrations -
The following things were identified during the Town Meeting as some of the good things about Montpelier that people appreciate. CELEBRATIONS Kellogg Hubbard Library -  Bike Path -  Ability of community to come out for marquis events Elm Street Apartment Block - Central Vermont Community Land Trust (CVCLT) project Conservation Commission accomplishments over the past ten years and how much park acreage/open space has been protected -  Hubbard Park -  Farmers' Market Drinking water in summer now improved Not dumping raw sewage in river Two new working farms in last 10 years Thriving arts community - Green Mountain Film Festival, book stores, Onion River Art Council, Lost Nation Theater and Pyralisk -  This time is "home" Beauty of architecture - desirable housing Wonderful restaurants -  Aluminum siding gone - preserving downtown -  Thank you Geoff Beyer - Thank Zorzi family for use of Sabin's Pasture for so long Volunteers made the Civic Center happen Natural surroundings and it's beauty Human scale of the downtown Great Union School teachers -  People downtown on Saturdays in evenings Capitol Grounds not McDonalds Our on-going effort to work with our teens -  Seeing teens creating programs for their peers - done a lot but need to decide what to do next Thankful for the March 2002 bond vote for the Carr Lot Gaithersburg greenspace is welcome to the eye instead of built out The Peace Monument on the bike path - Sheridens do not want to leave Glad Police Station is downtown Wholesome organic food cafes/shops - Afterschool programs Children's theater opportunities All the classical music "in the sticks" For More Information Contact: City of Montpelier Department of Planning and Community Development 39 Main Street, City Hall Montpelier, VT 05062-2950 (802) 223-9506 planning@montpelier-vt.org |
