| Projects: Union Elementary School Playground Project NOTE: This project has been completed. This page exists for archival purposes. A replacement of pressure-treated playground equipment is planned for Montpelier's Union Elementary School.
The existing playground is in need of significant repairs and replacement of several structures. The planned project will include removal of arsenic-containing wood equipment and replacement with a structure that is compliant with current health, safety and accessibility standards. The School District is applying for a Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant. The LWCF grant is a federally funded program that is administered by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. If awarded this grant, 50% of the cost of the project would be reimbursed by the LWCF. The proposed playground project has been planned for several years and has met with broad support from the Parent's Group, School Administration, and neighbors. The community's portion of this grant will be voted on in March as part of the School's Capital Improvement Budget. Notification of the LWCF grant awards will be made in May 2003.
