The goal of this position is to maintain and improve Montpelier's park system to meet the &amp;quot;green space&amp;quot; needs of present, and future, residents and visitors. Montpelier Parks aims to provide beautiful, accessible, safe public spaces for the enjoyment of human and wildlife communities. &lt;br /&gt;&#13;
Assist in the management and care of street and public trees in Montpelier for the benefit of all.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
Essential Functions:&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Maintain and improve Montpelier's parks and facilities: lawns, roads, picnic areas, and trails&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Organizing and working with numerous volunteers and groups to leverage effort and accomplishments. &lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Trail maintenance, restoration and improvements&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Assist with the care of street trees all around the city of Montpelier, including: pruning and planting of trees along the rivers and streets of Montpelier&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Control and removal of invasive species in the parks and along rivers.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Care of the tree nursery&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Map/inventory street trees and/or invasive plants&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
Desired Qualifications:&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Must be interested in, and able to, lead and work well with a wide variety of volunteers. &lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Interested in a variety of outdoor work that involves hard physical labor in all kinds of weather.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Ability to work with a wide variety of ages and types of volunteers, including youths with behavioral challenges.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
Minimum Qualifications:&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Be US citizen (or have permanent resident status; call with questions about this);&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Be at least 18 years of age upon entering the Pre-Service Orientation (there is no upper age limit), or 17 years of age with written parental permission that has been verified by phone;&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate, or be willing to work towards their GED as part of their service-year successful completion requirement. A member cannot have dropped out of high school to join AmeriCorps. If a member has a documented medical reason/professional opinion why they cannot finish high school, they might be eligible; call in this case;&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Be committed to the VHCB AmeriCorps program, and its ethic of service and personal and professional development of its participants;&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&amp;bull;	Have the ability and enthusiasm to drive to, attend, and participate in required trainings and events, and be prepared to drive 2-3 hours each way.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
Position begins ASAP ends August 16th, 2013&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
This position is: Minimum Time: Requires 300 hours of service. Member will receive a living allowance of &#36;2,538 (pre-tax), and an education award of &#36;1,175 upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include federal school loan forbearance, and various training opportunities.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
&lt;br /&gt;&#13;
This position does have recurring access to vulnerable populations (youth, persons over 60, individuals with disabilities). Position requires both FBI and State of Residence Background checks.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;

The Montpelier City Council will establish a standing Downtown Improvement District Committee consisting of five (5) to ten (10) members who shall represent a cross section of interests within the downtown area. Examples of those interests include, but are not limited to: persons owning or representing owners of real estate within the District; persons owning or representing co-owners of retail businesses within the District; persons owning or representing owners of hospitality businesses with the District; persons owning or representing the owner of a service business within the District; persons owning or representing an arts community enterprise within the District; persons representing or employed by the State of Vermont; and persons representing the City Council. Other city officials will participate as needed. Terms of appointment shall be for two years except during the initial appointment when the Council will evenly divide terms for one and two years. The Committee shall prepare an annual work plan and budget, and shall present the same to the City Council on or about July 1st of each year, for the Council&amp;rsquo;s consideration and approval. Letters of interest should be submitted to the City Manager&amp;rsquo;s Office, 39 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05602, or via e-mail to spitonyak@montpelier-vt.org, on or by Thursday, June 6th. This will include a) receiving concerns and suggestions; b) monitoring pedestrian infrastructure, especially sidewalks; c) researching and collecting information about pedestrian-related matters; d) promoting City Council's goal to &amp;quot;become a nationally known bike and pedestrian friendly city&amp;quot;; e) encouraging people to walk in Montpelier for transit and recreation; f) representing pedestrians when the use of streets is being determined; and g) assisting in the creation of a pedestrian plan/complete streets plan if determined to be helpful for Montpelier. Eliminating these products from the sewer system reduces maintenance costs and the risk of sewage backups, overflows, and pump failures. Unauthorized discharges may be subject to fines and other remedies, should damages result, per Section 3-406.&lt;br /&gt;&#13;

<title>Position Open: Hubbard Park Caretaker</title>
<description>&lt;div&gt;The City of Montpelier is looking for a Park Caretaker to be responsible for general after hours care of Hubbard Park, a 196 acre park. The Park Caretaker will be required to live in the park house (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms). The rent for the house will be &#36;1100 a month plus utilities. The position will be for 15 to 20 hours per week and compensation will be between &#36;15 and &#36;18 per hour. Approximately 7 hours per week will be counted for having a significant presence around the park and for being on-call in the park &amp;ldquo;after hours&amp;rdquo; and weekends. The remaining 8 to 13 hours will be to perform park duties, including: Ensuring appropriate visitor use of Hubbard Park; educating park users regarding park rules and policy; providing assistance to park visitors, maintaining a safe and clean park after hours; conducting routine house repairs and caring for house grounds; and assisting with park projects on weekends and evenings. The Park Caretaker must have the ability to communicate effectively with the public, be a positive representative of the city and the park, operate tools and heavy equipment, and conduct basic trail and house maintenance, be able to lead/supervise a wide variety of volunteers.
