CITY OF MONTPELIER PLANNING COMMISSION
PUBLIC HEARING
TO CONSIDER PROPOSED AMENDMENTS to the
2000 MONTPELIER MASTER PLAN
Wednesday, January 19, 2005, 7:00 p.m.
City Council Chambers, City Hall

A public hearing was convened in accordance with Title 24, Chapter 117, §4384 to consider proposed amendments to the Montpelier Master Plan. The proposed amendments relate to the establishment of a Reserve District to coincide with a pending zoning change affecting the lands along the southeastern area of Barre Street locally known as the Sabin's Pasture area. The amendments also include references to affordable housing, inclusionary zoning, open space protection, and traditional neighborhood design. The Reserve district is proposed to consist "... of open space that should be, but is not yet, protected from development and open space reserved for future development. Zoning for these areas is particularly sensitive and shall be revised carefully to balance the City's need for open space with its need for housing and mixed-use development."

The Montpelier Master Plan is a comprehensive long-range guide for growth and change in the Capital City of Vermont. This amended document would replace Master Plan adopted on September 13, 2000 while the Commission continues to work on further updates. Taken in its entirety, the Master Plan synthesizes a vision for what the community would like to be in the future and charts a course to achieve that vision.
