Dog Licenses

License Requirements

All dogs or wolf-hybrids 6 months of age or older shall be registered annually on or before April 1 (for 2017, the deadline is May 1st to allow for the deployment of the online renewal system). A current certificate of vaccination against rabies must be delivered to the City Clerk as follows:
  • All dog and wolf-hybrid vaccinations recognized by state and local authorities shall be administered by a licensed veterinarian or under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
  • All dogs and wolf-hybrids over 3 months of age shall be vaccinated against rabies. The initial vaccination shall be valid for 12 months. Within 9 to 12 months of the initial vaccination, the animal must receive a booster vaccination.
  • All subsequent vaccinations following the initial vaccination shall be valid for 36 months.
  • All vaccinations, including the initial vaccination, shall be with a U.S. Department of Agriculture approved 3-year rabies vaccine product.
To obtain a license for a spayed female or neutered male dog, a person shall exhibit to the clerk, a certificate signed by a duly licensed veterinarian showing that the female or male dog has been sterilized.

License Fees

The fee for dogs licensed prior to the May 1st are:
  • unaltered $22
  • Neutered/Spayed $18
The fee for dogs licensed after May 1st will increase to:
  • unaltered $26
  • Neutered/Spayed $22
To register a dog as a "working farm dog" there will be an additional $5 charge.
