Downtown Traffic & Circulation Simulation

Are you concerned about traffic congestion in the downtown and how future development in and around Montpelier might affect it? Are there tools we can use to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion? What might be the traffic impacts of a parking structure built somewhere in the downtown?

These and other questions were explored through a simulation study funded jointly by the City of Montpelier, Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission, and the State of Vermont. Wilbur Smith Associates was hired on July 2, 2003 to develop a traffic and circulation model of the downtown that allows us to plug in various development scenarios and test the results.
Public Meeting
On Wednesday, October 29, 2003, from 7 - 9 p.m., in Montpelier City Hall, a public meeting was held to discuss the Downtown Montpelier Traffic and Circulation Micro-Simulation Study. The agenda for this meeting (PDF) is available to view online.

The main purpose of this meeting was to introduce the project to the public, present the model, get feedback to see if the model accurately reflected existing conditions, and review some of the scenarios that were to be tested.
