  1. AARP Tax-Aide Volunteer Recruitment Meeting: What We Do & How We Do It

    December 9, 2019, 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM @ Montpelier Senior Activity Center

Want to challenge you brain, extend a helping hand to folks in your community, and fill some winter hours? AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Clinics in Montpelier and surrounding towns invite new volunteers to join their Central Vermont team. Support by the IRS and the charitable AARP Foundation, Tax-Aide is the nation's largest free, volunteer income tax preparation service and serves primarily older and low-to-moderate incoming clients. Tax return preparation may not be your "thing". Volunteers also help with client contacts and the site scheduling, program administration, and technology. All volunteers are expected to learn and adhere to specific standards of confidentiality and responsible practices. Whatever your role, Tax-Aide is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and use your existing skills to help others. For more information, visit the website www.aarpfoundation.org/taxaidevolunteer or call the MSAC office.

If you wonder what increases may be proposed for the new budget and if your taxes will increase, come ask. If you have had a good report on the schools from your grandchildren or the children in your neighborhood, come tell us.

  3. Off The Beaten Path: Leaps & Passages - The U.S. Border States with Deena Frankel

December 12, 2019, 6:00 PM @ Montpelier Senior Activity Center

"Leaps & Passages" tells the story of a three-month backroads solo trip around the United States border states. The trip was the dividing line between a long career and retirement, and coincided with the loss of a parent. The 12,374-mile journey became both an exploration of self and of the state of our nation. Join us for pictures and stories about the people and places around the U.S. border, our language about ourselves as a nations, the freedom and the challenges of solo travel as a woman in her 60s without a fixed itinerary, and the serendipity of taking a big leap before passing from one phase of life to the next. The presentation includes photographs from the journey. This is the 2nd in a series of 7, co-sponsored by Kellogg Hubbard Library.
