RE: Main Street Waterline Replacement
To Residents and Property Owners of Main Street neighborhood (between Jay and Loomis):
We are writing as a follow-up to the notice we sent to residents a couple weeks ago. The previous notice focused on the planned closure of Main Street while water main work is taking place which will be constructed by J.A. McDonald. This closure with a detour route was been approved by City Council which will significantly decrease the over project duration.
The old water main between Jay Street & Loomis Street has been problematic for quite some time with repeated failures while also being undersized for the service area and for fire flows. These failures resulted in unexpected loss of service to your homes and to the Main Street Middle School. We are pleased the replacement project has been funded and is getting underway. As you’ve likely already noticed, the contractor has been busy installing a temporary water main above ground and begun connecting all of the house services. This temporary water main will help to ensure continuous water service is available while the old water main is being replaced. Once the new main has been installed, tested, disinfected and certified for use, the contractor will begin connecting your house services.
The work schedule remains somewhat tentative at this time but the current plan is to begin installing the new main on July 9th and complete all service connections by approximately July 20th. Street, sidewalk & property restoration work will follow soon after. The street closure will be for the first week of work while the main line pipe is being installed.
Obstruction of access to and from your driveway will be unavoidable but typically of short duration which we will try to limit to a maximum of ten minutes. We will provide advance notice for any prolonged delays. You are welcome to contact our office for additional information or to request special accommodations if needed during the project.
We appreciate your cooperation. Landlords, we depend on you to inform your tenants about this upcoming project.
