Why is there a minimum payment of $2.00 on the credit card, anyway?
Like any credit card transaction, the city is charged a pesky transaction fee of .13 per transaction. Because the amounts are small relative to the transaction fee (.25 per 15 minutes), it is fiscally responsible to try and limit those transaction fees. This has been standard practice of the city at its parking kiosks, and that policy is continuing on single space meters.
