The Annual All Species Day Parade is a joyful community celebration honoring our place in the web of life, celebrating life’s diversity. Everyone is invited to participate, dressed as another species of life. The day involves performance, song and celebration. There are several theatrical performances involving large-scale puppetry, song, dance, celebrating our relationship to the Earth and heralding the coming of spring. The pageant begins with a ceremony honoring all of the species and celebrating the re-awakening of the Earth. Everyone joins in as we form a parade that processes through downtown and ends up on the Statehouse lawn where the festivities continue with the “Birth of Springtime” performance.
We offer workshops, many of them free, to provide community members of all ages an opportunity to participate in the dance and performance pieces that make up the day. All Species Day involves many local artists who participate by creating unique performances for the Day.
