A Lifeguard is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of those using the Community swimming pool. A Lifeguard’s major responsibility is to observe swimmers and enforce regulations in the guarding of life and the prevention of accidents. Other duties include but are not limited to: customer service, and keeping the pool and bathhouse clean. Applicants with current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification are preferred. Applicants with no current certification may apply and be hired on the condition of obtaining certification. Guards who obtain the certification would be eligible for reimbursement for the lifeguard certification fees at the completion of employment for the summer. WSI certification is encouraged and teaching swimming lessons is required. The lifeguard position will work between 20—40 hours per week including nights weekends and holidays.
Age 15+ with Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
Lap Swim Lifeguard:
This position has the same responsibilities as the lifeguard position (See above). The lap swim lifeguard will work Monday—Friday opening the pool for 7am lap swim and then doing some pool cleaning to finish the shift. Shifts will typically be 6:45—8:45am (10 hours per week). Lap Swim lifeguards will also be eligible to pick up shifts during regular public swim hours and also teach swim lessons if qualified. Applicants with current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification are preferred. Applicants with no current certification may apply and be hired on the condition of obtaining certification. Lifeguard hires are eligible for reimbursement for the lifeguard certification fees at the completion of employment for the summer.
A Pool Clerk’s major responsibilities are to scan passes, take admission fees, run concession stand, maintain bathhouse cleanliness, sell swim passes and make other financial transactions, including assisting with nightly cash outs when required. Age 15+
Day Camp Counselors:
Day Camp Counselors are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and day to day interactions at our licensed childcare facility.
Minimum qualifications: be 18 years of age Include resume and 3 letters of reference with your application.
Seasonal Maintenance Staff:
The Montpelier Recreation Department is accepting applications for seasonal full-time parks maintenance laborers. The season goes from the end of April to the middle or end of October depending on weather. Typical work week is 40 hours per week. Work involves cutting and trimming grass, landscaping, cleaning restrooms, light building maintenance, pick up litter, removing trash, cleaning courts and skate park surface, preparing athletic fields for afternoon and evening use, and other similar assignments.
Minimum qualifications: high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, and ability to lift and carry 75-pounds. Starting pay depends on experience.
